The Great Rescue

Earlier this week, an earthquake rocked the nation of Turkey, leaving behind many dead, wounded, homeless, and devastated. Natural disasters cause us to stop and take pause of life's frailty. As of this writing, 461 lives have been lost, and aid workers continue to dig through the rubble.

In the midst of tragedy, I've noticed a trend on the news websites that I visit each day. For the past few days, every time that I log on to a news site, the headline that greets me has been similar to the one before.

Baby pulled from the rubble
Two more survivors found.
Teenager rescued from earthquake's aftermath

According to an article in USA Today, since the earthquake struck, rescue workers have found 40 people alive in the rubble. These are stories of true rescue--deliverance from possible death.

Psalm 40:2 tells us that God "lifts us from the miry clay and sets our feet upon a rock." Just as these precious human beings have been "lifted" from destruction, Christ pulls us from the sinking pit of death, granting us eternal life. Lift up your eyes today, and see that when we speak of eternity, Christ alone can rescue us.
